Alebrijes Art Biodegradable Case
A single alebrije — the many-animal spirit-beast of Mexican folk art — pressed in same-colour relief into a matte, biodegradable wheat-straw shell.
The Design
The alebrije is one of Mexico's most distinctive folk-art forms — a fantastical creature assembled from several animals at once: a feline or jaguar body, wings, bull's horns, a curling serpent tail, all covered in dense spirals and feather-like marks. The form traces to Pedro Linares, a Mexico City cartonería maker who saw these beings in a fever dream in the 1930s; woodcarvers in Oaxaca later turned them into the painted copal-wood figures the style is known for today.
In Nahua belief the alebrije is read as a nahual — a spirit guide that moves between the world of the living and the world of the ancestors, associated with Día de Muertos. Many animals in one body stands for strength through fusion; the restless, intricate linework, for a culture that celebrates life loudly.
One large creature fills the back of the case as a same-colour 3D relief — no print, no coating. The shell is natural wheat straw on a biodegradable base: matte, lightly flexible, speckled with natural bran. Eight colourways, cut for the full iPhone 11 to 18 range.
