Floral Embroidery Biodegradable Case
Oaxacan floral-and-hummingbird embroidery, pressed in same-colour relief into a matte, biodegradable wheat-straw shell.
The Design
This pattern is drawn from Mexican hand embroidery: the scrolling flowers and vines of Oaxacan huipil blouses and the flower-and-bird motifs of Otomí Tenango de Doria work from Hidalgo. Full blooms, curling leaves and a single hummingbird in flight fill the whole back of the case.
Each element carries meaning. Flowers stand for life, beauty and the abundance of nature — a woman embroidering her village's flowers onto her clothes is a mark of identity and pride. The hummingbird, colibrí, is a sacred bird in Nahua belief and a messenger of joy, love and good news. The embroidery itself stands for patience and skill passed from mother to daughter — slow craft against fast fashion.
It's a same-colour 3D relief, not a print, on a matte wheat-straw shell over a biodegradable base — speckled with natural bran, lightly flexible. Eight colourways, cut for the full iPhone 11 to 18 range.
