Mayan Glyphs Biodegradable Case
Maya glyph blocks and the feathered serpent Kukulkan, pressed in same-colour relief into a matte, biodegradable wheat-straw shell.
The Design
This design combines two Maya references: blocks of hieroglyphic writing set in cartouches, and Kukulkan — the feathered serpent (Quetzalcoatl in Nahuatl) that appears to descend the stepped pyramid of Chichén Itzá at the equinox.
Maya writing was one of the few complete writing systems of the ancient Americas, used to track astronomy and the Long Count calendar — words cut into stone to last a thousand years. Kukulkan, snake body and quetzal feathers, joins earth and sky; a god of wind, rain, learning and creation, credited with bringing maize and the calendar to people, and read as renewal and cyclical return. Each glyph block is a name, a day, a destiny in the sacred 260-day count.
It's a same-colour 3D relief — no print — on a matte wheat-straw shell over a biodegradable base, speckled with natural bran. Eight colourways, with black reading especially sculptural. Cut for the full iPhone 11 to 18 range.
