The Design
At the center of this case sits a raised gold emblem with a face — the Sol de Mayo, or “Sun of May,” the sun that sits at the center of Argentina's flag between its two pale-blue bands. The case reproduces its most recognized feature: a human face at the center of the sun, ringed by alternating straight and wavy rays.
The emblem is molded as a dimensional, metal-effect piece rather than printed flat, set against a crystal-clear back scattered with gold flakes and framed by an electroplated gold edge running the length of the case.
The symbol dates to 1810, when Argentina's May Revolution began the war that ended Spanish colonial rule — the sun is read as freedom, dawn and a new beginning.
